Mike Thompson joined Democrats in voting Yes for the Tax Collection Responsibility Act, H.R. 3056. It passed 232 to 173 but is likely to be vetoed by President Bush. The bill would reverse an administration decision to use private debt collection agencies to collect back taxes. Thompson joined Democrats and Republicans alike to keep the Internet tax free until 2011; the Internet Tax Freedom Act, H.R. 3678, passed the House of Representatives 405 for, just 2 against and 25 not voting.
Mike also voted to overide President Bush's veto of the Children's Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act, H.R. 976. The motion required a 2/3rds majority to pass, so it failed with 273 Yes, 156 No, 4 Not voting. But now the Act will most likely be amended and then go for another round.
Mike Thomspon is the current elected member of the United States House of Representatives for California's 1st Congressional District.
